This a photo showing my wife Suman at the summit of Sca Fell Pike on Thurs
25 10 2007. She set herself the challenge of climbing England's highest mountain for her 40th birthday - and did it! She's not a regular fell walker, indeed most of her walking consists of a stroll up the high street! Look at that great view!
This is the closest to the sky she's ever been and you could see just how amazed she is with the experience. Being the city girl she is though, guess what unique discovery she found while on the mountain peak? Her phone has a working signal! I find it impressive that O2 mobile phones can grab reception in such a remote place. Anyways, that's my wife! The only person who could ever think of bringing a phone in a mountain climb.
I'm very proud of her and love her very much ...

Novice fell walkers Lisa Harris and Gayle Rowe climbed Scafell Pike on Sunday 13 April to raise money for the British Lung Foundation for research into Pulmonary Fibrosis. They were accompanied by a support team made up of friends from Gosforth Hall Hotel. Money raised to date has exceeded £1100 and contributions are still coming in.
Thank you to everyone who supported us financially through sponsorship and on the day.
'Having already climbed the summits of Snowdon and Ben Nevis earlier in the year, on Saturday 20th October 2007 we climbed Scafell Pike from the Wasdale car park via Lingmell Beck, Brown Tongue route. The views were magnificent on a beautiful clear day. Took some nice photos before returning to the Screes Inn at Nether Wasdale to have a few beers and watch the rugby world cup final. Shame England couldn't round off a great day by winning.

Hi,
My younger brother Thomas and I climbed Skafell Pike earlier on this summer, on Thursday 30th August 2007. We came up from the road from Great Langdale via Angle Tarn, quickly scaling the final ridge and getting to the summit from the north, then continued down the East side of the scree slope between Skafell Pike and Skafell, back towards the Crinkle Crags. On descending, we became immersed knee-deep in marshy bogs before wading out eventually and hitch-hiking home. A big adventure!

Find attached picture of David Little and Ali Garrigan of University of Manchester Hiking Club up Scafell Pike (13/10/07). Weather was pretty miserable, but it was an ace day and had lots of fun climbing the scree.
Hi there
On 12th September we woke in our tent at Church Stile Camp Site to find a lovely day - just right for climbing Scafell Pike. We decided to go by the easy route - from Wasdale Head main carpark we trekked across the fields and contoured up around the fell side. What wonderful views of the lake in the autumn sunshine. Having stopped for a cuppa coffee we started up and up and up again. There were a lot of people on the hill today, all enjoying the clear views down to the coast and across the other fells. On getting to the top - wow what a view. The clouds were touching the tops of some of the mountains, but did not spoil the enjoyment of being on top of England's highest point.

Sorry I can’t be more personal…. No name given!
We had a brilliant few days in Wasdale earlier this year, staying in the splendid Wasdale Yurt……an experience we can seriously recommend. It’s a bit like the tardis; looks small on the outside, but vast on the inside we thoroughly enjoyed it!!
Whilst there, the whole family (all six of us) headed for the top of Scafell Pike via Wasdale Head on 11th July (2007) and frankly the weather could no have been better. Jojo, our 8 year old, shot up like a cork and made mincemeat of what must have seemed and impossible task. Sadly the top was covered in mist, but the boys discovered an abandoned umbrella (who on earth would take one up there??) and spent a good 20 minutes or so trying to use the drag to help them clamber over the last 300 metres to the top. A gust of wind finally put paid to that idea and the umbrella took off, never to be seen again…
Herewith a pic of the family up at the top. Next year, another peak. The question is, which?
Yours aye,
James Maberly
This is Matthew aged 8 on top of Scafell Pike on his first attempt on Thursday 9th August 2007. The party consisted of Matthew, his parents Phil and Judie, and Judie's sister Gill. We went up from Seathwaite via Esk Hause (slightly by mistake as we weren't originally aiming in that direction)! We had fantastic weather until we got towards Esk Hause when it got cold and we could see that all the peaks were completely covered in cloud. However as we reached the top - Matthew as ever way ahead of his parents! - the cloud lifted and we had spectacular views in all directions. We returned via the corridor route using Wainwright and found the path completely disappeared near the ravine - requiring a quick scramble up very steep grass and rock to get back to the main path down to Sty Head. A long and satisfying day. Matthew has now also beaten us up Scafell, Great Gable and Green Gable, along with several other less lofty peaks. Bring on Skiddaw and Helvellyn next time!
Hi there
These are pics of my husband Al Waterston and myself ,Kath Waterston. We were staying at the Barn Door campsite over the August Bank Holiday. What a lovely place to be. On Sunday 26th August `07 we walked up to Styhead Tarn with the intention of climbing Great Gable, but we had plenty of time to spare so we decided to go up to Scafell Pike instead.!! It was a hard slog up there but well worth the effort, we felt really proud of ourselves to have made it to highest point in England.I only wish we`d gone back down the same way,we came back down the way that Wainwright described in one of his books as being the tourist route....my poor knees and feet. All the aches and pains were so forgotten though after a hearty meal and a few glasses of beer at the fab Wasdale Head Inn.Can`t wait to go back again soon.
regards
Kath and Al Waterston
Hi, I have been trying to send these snaps to you for a while now and struggled from my home PC, hence the e-mails from work, so apologies if one of the e-mails has already found its way to you!!
We (Julian Daniel age 42, wife Lynda age 40, Daughter Fay age 14 and Dad John age 67) climbed Scarfell Pike for the first time on Friday 24th August in celebration of my wife’s 40th birthday. We climbed via the Brown Tongue and then made the scramble up Mickledoor, it was a very hot day and remained clear until we reached the top when the cloud and mist descended spoiling the views. It took us 4 hours to climb and 2 ½ hours down (must have been the thought of a pint in the Wasdale Head Inn!)
We have been talking about doing this climb for years, and can actually see the mountains around Wasdale Head from our Caravan which is about 5 miles away in Saltcoats, it was fantastic to achieve this as a family and share the amazing experiences.
Thanks to Rob, Becky and Chris for guiding us up and giving plenty of encouragement.
I would really appreciate it if you could put my pictures on the website for all to see.
Thanks
Please add Jack BOYDEN (13)and Phoebe to your hall of fame.
' We climbed Scafell Pike on Thursday the 9th August 2007, via Wasdale Head, to Styhead Pass. We traversed under Great End, past the tarns and then up a busy Esk Hause to summit. We could see miles as it was such a clear day. We then descended via Brown Tongue to the campsite. Dad then treated me to a large plate of Gammon Egg and Chips at the Bridge PH at Santon to celebrate a brilliant day'
Thanks very much,
Martin Boyden

Hi,
I climbed Scarfell Pike on 4 August 2007 with two friends, Jon and Tamsin. The summit was covered in cloud and the photo dosen't show too much! We had a bit of trouble following the route on the way down and ended up back at The Wasdale Head Inn, very wet, at 9:45pm. Luckily they saved us some food!
All-in-all we had a thoroughly good time and can't wait to do it again in better weather.
Please can I have one of your certificates?
Thanks, Richard Edwards
Hi. Enclosed is a picture of Finn Avison on top of Scafell Pike on 7th August 2007. A frequent walker from his home in the Dales it was his first serious walk in the Lake District and what better place to start! Ascended from Wasdale Head via Sty Head pass and round the back of Great End, down via Lingmell Coll and the spine of Lingmell. A clear view from the top. Thoroughly enjoyable trip
We read with interest that you sent us a certificate if we had made it up Scafell Pike here is our picture.
We had a fabulous week in Wasdale and were welcomed by all. Many thanks to the web for masses of information before we came.
Carole, Doug, Erin and Josh Meikle
On Friday the 20th of July 2007, 2.45pm; myself Tony James & my fiancé Bridgett Plant reached the summit of Scafell Pike.
After arriving at Keswick on Monday the 16th of July, we pitched our tent up at Castle rigg and primed ourselves in for the big one by reaching the summit's of Cat Bells and Skiddaw on the tuesday and wednesday of that week. Then it was down to Ambleside on the thursday for a bit of relaxation, sight-seeing and a nice comfy bed at the Fern Cottage Guest house before setting off Friday morning along Hardknott Pass to reach the car park at Wasdale Head for 12.30pm.
The route we took pointed us in the direction Lingmell Beck. From there we crossed Lingmell Gill before starting the ascent of Brown Tongue. From There we reached Hollow Stones at the brow of the hill and took the path that forks off to the left. Along the winding path of the crags we approached the summit from the north and by 2.45pm we joined a dozen walkers who had just come to rest at the highest peak in the country. An amazing end to an even more amazing week of our first ever trip to the Lakes. Im sure there will be plenty more to come.
Hope this makes a positive contribution to your excellent website.
Keep up the good work.

Irene Small and Kev Holmes conquered the pike on the 10th of july 2007. Charlie thought it was good fun too
Hi, my partner (Dave Moulds) and myself (Alicia Kilworth) reached Scafell Pike Summit on 19th May 2007. It took about 5 hours in the sleet, rain and cold wind. But was a great experience! We made it to the top but unfortunately as you can see from our pictures it was foggy and cold.
We did the walk for Macmillan Cancer Support and between us raised about £200.
My Husband, myself and our little Jack Russell 'Shearer' walked Scafell along with about another 100 people for Macmillan on 19th May 2007. We managed the corridor route, the day had mixed weather and unfortunately when we reached the top you could see very little. As we started our descent the weather changed and the next group up got some great views. Enclosed are a picture of Me, shearer and Ian one of the guides at the summit, My husband and me on the way back down and some of the beautiful views.
Hope we make the website!

This is a photograph of a rather grumpy Clare Mawson on top of Scafell Pike on 21st June 2007. This was Clare's first attempt at fell-walking since she had been led into waist deep snow on Helvellyn by her primary school teachers which almost put her off the Lake District for life. We took the Sty Head Pass, Corridor Route to the summit, but chose the Broad Crag col ascent rather than the Lingmell col tourist route and Clare was less than pleased with her guide after scaling the scree on her hands and knees! The Mickledore Ridge route down was no more pleasant either but once on firmer ground and after a good sleep it was Clare who decided that an assault on Kirk Fell was required the following day!

Here we are on top of Scafell Pike, Saturday 9th June 2007 . What a fantastic day we had! We started at Seathwaite, via Stockley bridge, Styhead tarn and the Corridor route, returning via Broad crag, Ill crag, Great End and Esk hause.
We are Eric Field, Brian Glover,Tony Goodwin, Nigel Hay, Dave Leggett, Andy Mills and Paul Tudor.
Hi Wasdale Web,
On 1st June Mike, Sarah, Joanna and I (Graham) made it to the top from Seathwaite Farm and back down to Wasdale Head for supper. A wonderful experience to add my Snowdon and Ben Nevis, and much more of a challenge than Ben!
I am still collecting for charity on www.justgiving.com/tonksey2007 as the others including Richard did Skiddaw on the 2nd and we all did Hellvelyn on Sunday. Thanks to all at Maximum Adventure for all their organization and help in making a weekend walking a relaxing and fun holiday.

My wife and I climbed the Pike on 2 May 2007. We started at 7.45am from the NT campsite and reached the top at 11.45 via Brown Tongue and back in the pub another 3 hours later.
It was a beautiful sunny day and the views were glorious. When we got to the top we were alone having seen only one other person who passed us on the way up and who we met again latter on his way down. We passed many going up on our way down and were glad we had started early to miss the heat of the day.
Wonderful experience that I had been wanting to have for many years - as you can see we are not in the first flush of youth!
Hi
My friend Ian Owens and myself Andrew Livesey walked to the top of Scafell Pike 14th April 2007. Spectacular weather, incredibly hot! It was great to see everyone enjoying their walk to the top.
Ian and I did the walk to celebrate my 29th birthday a few days later.
Thanks to Ian for the support and friendship.
All the best, great site

Hi
We climbed Scafell Pike on 1/5/07. We were staying in a caravan in Flookburgh for the week and drove to Wasdale Head that morning. It was a beautiful day though visibility was a little hazy at the top - and we couldnt believe the strength of the wind up there. It took us three and a half hours to get to the summit (though this was partly due to Paul having discussions on football with many of the people we passed - he was wearing his Man City cap).
We had a look at the National Trust camp Site on the way and will be back again asap with our tent in order to do Great Gable. We cant wait!

26th April 2007
Have just succeeded in our ambition of climbing the three peaks! Scafell was the last and the most enjoyable as it was the only one where it didn't completely pour down and we could see the beautiful scenery.
John Harrison (67) and Doug Sample (68) - Not bad going eh?
Hi my two girls Georgina, Alanna and the wife Yvonne on top of the Pike on Easter Sunday, as is the way good clear weather on the climb just to find as we get to the top of the Mickledore the clouds rolled in, so no views from the top, but they made it not without some complaints on route but pleased to know they reached the top of England
Every year we get away some ware for a walk and scarfell pike was the most memorable walk for all of us 28/12/05. It defiantly wont be the last time
ON THE SUMMIT AT 4!!
On Wednesday 4 April - a glorious day - we set off to climb Scafell Pike from Wasdale. I was carrying 2 year old Jonathan, husband Simon had the picnic and 4 year old Thomas was having his first attempt at proper mountain walking!! It took 4 hours and lots of picnic but we made it to the summit!
The smile on Thomas' face made it all worthwhile! With the fabulous views he really was on top of the world. We got down in half the time - the promise of ice cream and Thomas literally ran down! Oh to be 4 again and not to suffer the aching muscles!
At just turned 4 surely he must be one of the youngest to summit under his own steam?
From Sarah, Simon, Thomas and Jonathan Lant
Hello there.
We made it up on Easter Monday 2007, and it felt brilliant. The two of us drove over from Hawkshead in the morning, over the Hardknott and Wrynose passes, and got an early taster of the low cloud. We were a little worried about getting lost in all the cloud once we saw Lingmell, but we had faith!
We took the route up from the foot of Lingmell up the stone path, and were more worried about having to come down it in the slippery wet than any thoughts about what lay ahead. Past Hollow Stones we were into the cloud, from about 300m, and huddled behind a rock for a moment for some cake. Mmm. Unfortunately then we made our way up without taking the easier route to the left, and ended up scrambling to the top of the ridge with loose slate underfoot. Finally a few anxious moments passed while trying to find the cairns that lined the path to the top, but then we were there!
Stopped for just enough time to eat a mars bar and take a photo, then hurried off again, it was freezing! Finally found the cairns leading down to the corridor route, and marvelled at how they managed to space the piles of rock just on the edge of visibility. First glimpses of the Lingmell Beck Valley were fantastic as we came back down through the cloud.
A real adventure, can't wait to go again
Richard Hough, Julie Catto, Kathryn Page and Iain Catto - Easter 2007 - amazing weather : sunny days and starry nights - it really was a Good Friday on top of England - and easier going than the lower level screes path back from Nether Wasdale along Wast Water on Saturday!! Fab weekend staying at the Barn Door Campsite and enjoying all that Great Gable brewery had to offer - thanks Giles! Thanks also to the brilliant shop for opening early morning for all the supplies we forgot, and to the very nice man in the Land Rover who pulled us out of the ditch. We will be back..
Hi please see the photo attached of Glen Tomlin and Kathryn Sloane who reached the top of Scafel Pike on the 4th April 2007.

Enclosed are pics of me and Rob attop Englands highest mountain. We had been working at Ambleside YHA since February and this had been on the cards from day one. Due to a long and arduous application process Rob had decided to hide in his room for all of July so it wasn't until August that we finally got round to making the trip over the hardknot pass into Wasdale and pitching our tents in the near darkness and slight rain. We awoke the next morning to the most amazing weather, pure blue sky overhead and baking sunshine even at 8:30. We made our ascent via Scafell which was definately worthwhile and arrived at the top around mid afternoon with lots of other people lucky enough to not be at work in the middle of a week in August. The view was sublime, all the effort worth it and even the spam sandwiches were divine. Needless to say we are sure to return to the area, next time to conquer great gable and more!
Hope this makes it to the website,
Cheers

former YHA staff
This was part of our 24 hour 3 Peaks Challenge.
We started out at 4.30am on 13th May from Wasdale Head in the dark and pouring rain. Got a little disorientated in the dark and missed the beck crossing at the base of Brown Tongue and had to do a little cross country to get back on track. Took the Lingmell Col path but our hopes for a beautiful dawn were thwarted. We couldn't see anything in the mist and rain and the climb to the top was more determination that pleasure. Finally made it at around 6.40am, bedraggled, but elated (see our picture).
Revitalised by success we went hell for leather down again and made it back to base at Wasdale Head by 8am!!
Hi, Hope all is well in Wasdale.
We recently climbed The Pike on Saturday 1st July following a wild camp at Great Moss, Upper Eskdale.
The party was:-
Les Peacock
Judy Peacock (wife)
Adam Peacock - aged 7 years and 2 days (son)
Jan Ogden (sister)
Absentee - Sam, a lovely, faithful, black Labrador (aged 14 now) - resting in kennels after a wonderful life of constant companionship on these magnificent hills
We ascended via Cam Spout waterfall and Mickledoor and had fine weather throughout.
We listened to Portugal beating England on penalties (again !!) on a small radio in the depths of Little Narrowcove on the way down.
Best Regards,
Les Peacock,
Hartlepool
This is Chris Burrows, Mandy Harris and my daughter Shana Burrows,
We climbed SCAFELL PIKE on Sunday 30th July 2006, the weather was good and the view was worth the climb!
Hope to come and visit again soon!!!
My name is Eleanor Barker from Melton Mowbray and i climbed scafell pike with my Dad Chris Barker on Sunday 23rd of July. Im 9 and it took us 6 hours from Wasdale Head campsite. Thankyou to all the people who gave me encouragement when I was going up, but not to the person who said the shop at the top sold ice cream. Did'nt see much at the top as it was covered in cloud and got very cold and wet.
Hi,
my granddaughter Charlotte Stevenson aged 9 and my self William Stevenson 57, climbed Scafell Pike on 30/07/2006.
Charlottes first ascent my 3rd. We climbed from Seathwaite Farm, via Grains Gill,Esk Hause, Calf Cove and descended
via the Crridor route. Charlotte loved it. The weather was just perfect, bit cool on top and jackets were worn but as we
descended we were soon back in tee shirts.
We will be back for another climb in the Autumn.
Home town is Swinton, Manchester.
best regards
Bill Stevenson
Adam Mathews on Scafell Pike summit 12-08-06 A lovely hot day but very cold on the summit.
Me and my two daughters climbed the Pike on 17/08/06 via the Lingmell, Brown Tongue, Hollow Stones route, it was the girls very first mountain climb and I feel not the last either as a great day out was had, on the way up my compass broke which ruled out a descent via the Corridor route which would have been much easier on the knees, so a return was made by the same route, on the top when we got there were just a group of German guys who one of took the summit photo for us and when they left we had the whole Pike to ourselves which must be very rare for the time of the year and viewable conditions which were pretty clear for the surrounding mountains and valleys although too overcast for much else, shortly on the way down a solitary male climber was coming up and we told him that he would more then likely be the only person on top which he also found very hard to beleive.
Elisha Bell, Age 10yrs
Hello
Three of us had a brilliant time climbing Scafell Pike last week but the shop (by the pub) selling the T-shirts was shut by the time we got back down! Is there anywhere we can buy them on line? We need a reminder beside the photos and the aching muscles!!
Many thanks in anticipation!
Laura
On Sunday 27th August I climbed to the summit of Skafell Pike with my husband, Paul Mirfin, and step-dad, John Coldwell. We started in the rain at Seathwaite and had a long walk and steep climb via the corridor route, before eventually setting eyes on skafell pike itself. We came back down via Broad Crag and Great End, finishing at the starting point with a cup of tea at Seathwaite.
Despite the cold, wet weather and poor visibility, the views were still fantastic as the constant shifting of clouds and odd beams of sunlight made the views everchanging and interesting to stand and watch ( when able to stand without falling on my ass !!).
For my husband and I it was the first time we had done any hiking and it certainly won't be our last- we're hooked ! The adrenalin rush of the day is still with us and we feel completely rejuvenated and restless to face another challenge ! We had a drive to Wasdale the next day and would love to try that route another time, and may be even the '3 peaks Challenge', who knows ?!
Great website, really enjoyed reading through it,
Here is two photos for the wall of fame. Please send through a certificate for printing.
Many Thanks

Both myself, Colin Harris & my 26 year old son Christopher Harris climbed Scarfell Pike today 24/4/06.
We climbed via the Wasdale Lingmell route. It was very cold at the top once the sun went in!
Wind was buffeting but we managed, to get up through the gap between Scarfell & Scarfell Pike.
We climbed Green & Great Gable on Sun 23rd as well. Much warmer day!
Looking forward to climbing Scarfell next time!
Colin & Christopher Harris

This is me, my partner Nathan and my mum Dorothy at the top of Scafell Pike
on Wednesday 5th July 2006. It was a glorious hot day and feet were gladly
dipped in the streams we came to on our descent!
We had climbed Ben Nevis on the Monday and went on to do Snowdon on the
Friday.
We all loved the Lake District and will be back again as soon as we can!
Thank you!

Please publish this photo on your website. It shows Sam Henning (aged 7) on his first trip up Scafell Pike, along with his very proud dad, on 15/07/2006.
We started from the National Trust campsite, took the Styhead Pass path and cut across just short of the Pass on to the Corridor Route.
Sam insisted on proceeding to the top of Scafell, which we did, via Foxes Tarn Gully.
A glorious day, with unbroken sunshine and spectacular views.
i climbed it on tuesday the 18th 2006. heres a picture to use on the website.

Kelly Payne summitted snowy Scafell Pike on Friday 14th April 2006 and
although I was missing my brother Adam and friend Joe this year, was
accompanied by my trusty ma and pa, Kim and Charles (also pictured)! Am
proud to be the first one of the bunch to climb all three summits and loved
every minute!
Ascended via the corridor route from Wasdale head and descended via
Mickledore. Kendal mint cake always tastes better when its brought from The
Barn Door!!I thought you might like to consider this for the photo gallery. It was
taken during the descent from Scafell Pike from Mickledore by my proud dad
Charles Payne. I think the view into Mosedale across Wasdale head is
breathtaking and Pillar looks magnificant in the back ground! Seeing this
view on our way down was a perfect end to the walk!
Many thanks and best wishes
Kelly Payne
I would appreciate you adding this to your wall of fame!
On Friday 14th of April 2006, Myself (Lee Collins, 26), my partner (Gemma Sheehan, 21), and my eldest daughter (Jade Collins, 7) walked to the top of Scafell Pike. We went from Wasdale Head to the Summit via Hollow Stones and past Lord's Rake.
This was Jade's first ascent to the summit, but Gemma and I had been previously. Considering she is only seven, she did extremely well - even managing to walk the entire ascent and descent by herself!
She's going to have some jealous friends when she returns to school - after being the "Highest Person in England" albeit only for a short few minutes.
Many thanks

A group of friends and myself (far left) climbed Scafell Pike recently via the Corridor Route . The weather was fine but a little cold on the summit.
For some it was there first ascent of "The Pike" and I would be grateful if you could place this picture on your great website as I know they will all love it
Clive Perkins and Andy Harris climbed Scafell Pike on Friday 14th October as part of the Wainwright memorial walk to celebrate Andy's 40th birthday
Hello. From the left (des, sat nav and tom tom) climbed Scafell pike on the 23rd of October 2005 in 2hr. Unfortunately it took 6hrs to get down! as we took the
unintentional scenic route round the back of the Scafell range. Had a really good time doing it though
Only just discovered you; what a great idea. Here's my story & photos:
On 26 April 2005 , my friend David Longrigg (69) and I climbed the Pike and raised £1,300 towards a project at our church (St Giles in Oxford ). David had climbed Snowden & Ben Nevis, and wanted to complete the trio before he couldn't. I have been up several times which is why he asked me to help. It was a grey day as the photos show but we got up and down via Brown Tongue and Lingmell Col in about six hours, which I thought pretty good for someone nearly 70 who hadn't walked a mountain for years.
Thanks
John Clements
My dad (Ken Hughes) and I (Chris Hughes) arrived late at Wasdale Head at about 1:30pm so we agreed there wasn’t enough time to get to the top. Instead we thought we’d go part of the way and recce it for another day. Everyone seemed to be coming down as we plodded higher and higher until we were too close to stop. We reached the summit in 2 hours and 20 minutes. Great weather and stunning views from the roof of England
Hi, this is Janet and Lesley on top of Scafell Pike on saturday 24 September 2005 . Brilliant weekend spent in Wasdale Head carpark and the pub! and the only good weather when we were on the hill! Awesome
On Thursday 8th September 2005 Keith Lidell, Becky Chiverton and Sara Keetley climbed Scafell Pike for the first time. It was an awesome experience and Im sure we will return to Wasdale again to explore a bit more!! PS great website!!!

Hi,
Attached is a photo of me at the top of Scafell on Monday 12th September 2005 . I’m Grace Hughes and am 10 months old. Mummy and Daddy took it in turns to carry me up in my backpack. My dogs Suzi and Ella also came with us. It was a beautiful day, we had lunch at the top and beer at the bottom.
Thanks
Grace

Hi
My name is Jack Stone, age 11.
I climbed scarfell on Monday 15th Aug 2005 , with my Dad.
We started from Wasdale Head camp site, up brown tongue to the first aid box, and then to the top.
We came down the corridor route to Stye Head, and then back to the camp site. It took us about 7 hours
Jack
(from Hampshire)
David Warburton at the top again on 3rd Sept. 2005 .
Route via Brown Tongue and Mickeldore.
Last climbed Aug 1975.
AND we flew the flag
Please could you add our Photo to the Scafell Pike Summiteers section of the website?
We climbed it on Saturday the 10th September in celebration of our wedding anniversary. We had fantastic weather as we ascended via Brown Tongue to descend via Esk Hause and Sty Head Tarn to retire to some fantastic food and drink at the Strands in Nether Wasdale.
Thanks,
Hugh and Nadine Kirby
On the 3rd of September 2005 , Thomas and Edward Latham (aged 6 and 3) managed to walk to the top of Scafell Pike . Tom and Edward were accompanied by Mum and Dad, and were offered plenty of encouragement from passing walkers on route. Both managed the full trip without a carry and walked straight up to the top from the National Trust campsite. All involved celebrated the day with refreshments at the Wasdale Head Inn
Callum and Finlay Paterson (aged 8 & 6) climbed Scafell Pike for the 1st time on Monday August 22, 2005 in fabulous weather, accompanied by Mum and Dad, Cameron & Sue Paterson. What started out as a "let's just walk up a little of the way", became a full blown effort, largely due to the sheer enthusiasm of the boys, who charged up the mountain with their parents in hot pursuit! We started at the National Trust car park at the head of Wast Water and headed up via Brown Tongue, taking the route betwen Scafell & Pikes Crags -- this proved very steep and a bit of a scramble, but great fun. We took the slightly more gentle route down via Lingmell Coll, and bathed our aching feet in the Gill at the bottom! A wonderful day out, a great achievement, and Dad is very proud of everyone
Christine Warburton age 7 at the top in 1975.
Route was from Wasdale Hd. via Mickeldore.
Now I don’t normaly respond to these notes, preferring instead to let the summiteers speak for themselves, but seeing as this is from 1975 I thought I would just say well done ! Guy (the WasdaleWeb)
David Warburton at the top August 1975
The 'bald' guy(doing the classic catalogue pose) i Jay Nolan, and I'm the 'other one'. We climbed on 28th August in Misty / poor visibility conditions, from Wasdale campsite via Hollow Stones Just like to say that I thought the whole area was fantastic, my first time in the lakes! The lecture atthe Wasdale Inn by Simon Yates was an absolute bonus!thanks for a great time!!!
Cheers Dave.

The Cadman family from Elford in Staffordshire climbed to the top of Scafell Pike on Thursday 18th August 2005 . The team consisted of Tom (aged 8), Katie (aged 11), Caroline and James (Mum and Dad), and Sophie (Chocolate Labrador).
Although the conditions at the top were not good, the experience of climbing to the top was something to remember (aching limbs etc)!

James Cadman
Gregory, William & Trevor Jenkins climbed Scafell Pike on Tuesday 16th August
2005 . Route from Wasdale Head via Lingmell Coll. Weather was good but low
cloud took out the view from the top. A good day, completed at the Screes
Inn. Thanks Wasdale
Attached is a photo of Matthew Brown, aged 11,who ascended Scafell Pike for the first time on Saturday August 20th 2005 at 1140 hrs.Matthew had been pestering me all Summer to get him up there after whetting his appetite on Snowdon last year. Not only did he climb this fell but we also took in Lingmell on the way up and Broad Crag,Ill Crag,Great End,Round How and Piers Gill on the way down and with some of the best views I`ve seen in 30 years of climbing the Scafells. He now wants to climb lots of other fells but I think he was so impressed with the sublime scenery of Wasdale that he`ll be back here many times, just like his dad who loves this place like no other.
Steve Brown (Dad).
Hi there!
Hope you are well. Just writing to enquire about the possibility of getting some certificates for myself and my 2 friends who managed to reach the top of Scafell Pike on the weekend just gone.We all had a fantastic time and enjoyed great weather. We then saw the notice in the shop by the Wasdale inn offering certificates of acheivment,if a photo of the intrepid walkers could be included! So please find the photo attached and please thank,on our behalf, all at the campsite, the shop and the Wasdale inn (for some excellent lasagne and the fabulous Scawfell ale!!) for a thoroughly enjoyable weekend!

Hi, please find a few pictures from an assent of Scafell Pike on Thursday 30/06/2005 by Ian and Keith Blatchford (Father and Son). We stayed in Windermere and travelled via Ambleside thro' Langdale and parked at ODG, taking the route via Rossett Gill and Esk Hause. We left the car at 0905hrs in mild, bright conditions but already the high peaks were obscured by cloud. As we entered the cloud the drizzle turned to rain and the protective clothing came out. We became a little lost around Esk Hause in the mist, but with the help of the compass we were soon over the boulders to the top. The summit was reached at 1240hrs and we couldn't see a thing!! We returned by a similar route, gradually taking off the clothing, and reaching the ODG in the same weather that we had left it!! The Old Peculiar was great.
The next day we climbed Helvellyn and the views were fantastic!
Ian Blatchford
Please post this piccy on your ace website.
My boyfriend (Steve) and I climbed Scafell Pike on 16 July 2005 in fantastic weather.
We went up via Hollow Stones onto Mickledore then also bagged Broad Crag, Ill Crag and Great End before desceding via Esk Hause and Lingmell Beck for a well earned pint in the Wasdale Head Inn!
Many thanks,

John & I climbed Scaffell Pike on the 21st May 2005 ,
the weather was changeable most of the way up but by
the time we reached the top it cleared up drastically
& the views were fantastic. Well worth the pain.
Please can you put our pictures up live, many thanks.

Hi ,please find attatched pictures of myself and my 8 year old son shaun at the summit of scafell pike on sunday 29th may 2005.It was shauns first ascent of the pike and almost exactly 10 years since i first climbed it myself.Along with his mum we had walked from the national trust campsite up to sty head then up to sprinkling tarn bagging seathwaite fell as we passed, then on to esk hause before reaching the summit. After a short stay at the top for food and photos we dropped down to lingmell col and thenproceeded to climb to the summit of lingmell before descending to the campsite via the shoulder route.Needless to say shaun fell asleep very easily that night despite some noisy neighbours on the site.
We climbed scarfell pike on sunday 23rd may 05. It was a very
special day we were the only three people on the summit. My sister was
close to tears at times but she did it and feels amazing but very stiff
>today. It took us eight and a half hours

Hi,
Attached is a photo of myself and my fiance Andy on the top of Scafell Pike
on 22nd February this year. As you can see it was snowing and very cold on
the top.
We thought we were doing well to get up there in the snow, but not long
after we arrived a man appeared who had run up from Borrowdale, then along
come another two men, then finally two more with dogs in tow!
I made the mistake of booking a holiday ion Scotland this summer so I
suspect Ben Nevis is next on the list. Hopefully they'll be less snow in
August. Thanks to everyone who looks after Wasdale and makes it the special place
that it is.Heather
Dear Wasdale Web,
Maybe too many words and pictures...
Kind regards
Stephan
While on a round trip through Scotland and England in March 2005, my son Risto (12) and I -together with our travelling companion, "the little stool" - tried to climb the Scafell Pike on the 16th of March.
After a pleasant and dry night in the Murt Barn we added some flippers to our old VW-Bus and swam like a salmon against the current to Wasdale Head. The road was a rolling river. It was raining cats and dogs. But we had just this day for our run to the summit.
As soon as we left the lake, formerly known as the car park, it was obvious, that the run would be problematic. We had no chance to cross Lingmell Beck and its numerous distributaries. After an hour we went back to the River Road, soaked to the bone. Next problem: The bridge at the camping site was closed due to construction works. Desperate and drenched we found some friendly workers who let us cross the temporary bridge.
The ascent was slippery. Sheep ogled in their woollen high tech hydrophobic skin as we climbed through fog and rain. The ford to accross the Lingmell Gill was impassable. It took us a long time to find a place were we could bounce from stone to stone to the other side. The moisture in our shoes was no longer a problem.
After a while it happened: We got lost. The path disappeared, no steps, no marks, and the map, bought from a friendly young lady in the astonishing well-assorted globetrotter shop at the Wasdale Head was of no use at all. It got steeper and steeper. Cold wind, which blow the water uphill. One step forward, two steps back in boulder. An injury to my leg caused by a sharp-edged stone almost meant giving up on several occasions. Could man conquer the mountain?
Not this time. After a steep slope we reached a ridge. We went to the right and stopped in front of rocks. We could not see the top. The storm got worse and worse. At this point we decided not to dare our fate. The risk was too high! To this day I do not know were we were, but we got our photo from "our" summit. My son was very concerned because even though we were too tired to eat or drink I insisted on screwing our stool together for a picture.
After a short rest we began our descent, sliding and stumbling. The big blue-yellowish egg (ostrich, not quail) on my shinbone got larger and larger. Sheep, rocks and fog all looked the same. Once again we went astray. I am a little overweight but despite this I am a keen sportsman and not inexperienced in hill walking. But this was really hard. Into the bargain I got cramps in both thighs, but we had to climb up again luckily finding the path. I had never been more delighted to see litter on the mountain. We had passed it on the ascent and so we were sure we were back on the track.
Around two o´clock we were back at the car. We wrong out our clothes and drained the boots. A hot chocolate in the bar did wonders for the circulation and Scafell-T-Shirts are a nice memento, even though we did not reach the Pike.
We will definitely return to reach the summit. Last but not least to see were we were. The walking tour, the Valley, the Wast Water and the camping barn are unforgettable.
Even Edward Wymper failed several times at the Matterhorn. We are in good company.
Unfortunately the weather prevented any good pictures. Even the battery of my scuba diving camera gave up the ghost in the wet and the cold. Nevertheless I add some shots of our tour.
Stephan Heisler, Hamburg, Germany
Here is a picture of me at the top on Wednesday this week, the 13th April 2005.Originally intended to do Kirk Fell and around the Mosedale Valley. The cloud lifted so quickly I had to go for the Pike!

The MacDermid 3 Peaks club last ascended on 16th October, and some of us
returned on Saturday 16th April. We were the first group there (about
midday), spoiling the smooth snow drifts with our footprints. The

Please could you send a Scafell Pike Certificate for my daughter, Becky Power, age 11. We climbed Scafell Pike on the 14th February 2005. I grew up in Cumbria but this was her first real mountain climb. Weather was lovely in the valley but very cold and windy on top.

Well done for a fabulous web-site - I kkep you on my 'favourites' so I can keep an eye on the Great Gable cam when I'm stuck in the office.
We've just had an excellent week at Burnthwaite - thanks to the Wasdale Web for that contact too!
I attach a picture of my daughters, Martha and Isabel on Scafell Pike on Thursday 31st March. They were absolutely determined to get to the top - we had a wonderful if strenuous 8 hours on the mountain - no views at the top as you can see, but wonderful on the way up. If you could send each of them a certificate for their achievement they'd be very grateful - they are VERY proud to have reached the roof of England !

My son Christopher and I climbed it on 31st March on our way back to Stoke the day after watching England at St. James Park. Christopher (shown in the photo) is about to start his Duke of Edinburgh gold award, so felt he needed a bit of training!
The weather was pretty good, although a thick mist had descended when we reached the top (see photo). We climbed up from Wasdale head car park and after negotiating the scree / rocks to reach the point where Scafell is on your right and the pike ~1 km over to the left, the mist gave the illusion that Scafell was far higher than Scafell Pike . Has anyone else ever felt the same?
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable day and we can't wait to return to Wasdale Head to tackle Great Gable and Scafell.

Dear Wasdale Web
James Cusworth (6 years old) climbed Scafell Pike on Monday 21st March, we set off from Stonethwaite to Seathwaite, climbed up Grains Gill, Esk Hause and visited Great End, Ill Crag, Broad Crag then Scafell Pike before dropping into Wasdale and having a meal at Wasdale Head Inn. James on his return journey was going to climb Kirkfell, Gt Gable, Green Gable, Brandreth, Grey Knotts to Honister Pass , but due to the time we had before darkness would fall, we decided to head up to Styhead tarn and take the Styhead pass back to Seathwaite.
The next day James visited Gt Gable via Honister Pass.
Keep up the Good work

31/03/2005 - Julie and Bernie Millington from South Devon finally make a gloomy summit for the first time two days after their Silver wedding anniversary! Julie was heard to say " Well worth the climb to get the views. Wonder if it will be any better on our 50th!"
Hi,
Matt Palmer and his Dad Alan Climed up to Scafell Pike in June 2004, enclosed are pictures of us both at the meet-point at the top. It was our first climb, and we made it a bit exciting for ourselves by taking the path to the right, which leads you up through the gulley. Very interesting when its blowing a gale!! Pretty pleased we managed to make it safely to the top. We took the easy way down. Then climed Great Gable. We had a great time. The grub at the inn in wasdale was great as well. Just what you need after a bit of a trek.

Reply from the WasdaleWeb : ok so this isn't a summit shot of the Pike, but seeing as it was an attempt we decided to put the walk here in full.

Please add out photos to your gallery of summiteers! This was our first visit to Wasdale in July this summer. As you can see, we didn't choose the clearest day to ascend from the NT campsite via Mickledore; I guess we'll just have to do it again to deserve our reward in the Inn.
On 27th November 2004, 9 members of the 'Waklers' club from Cannock Wood, Staffs climbed to the top of Scafell Pike. The average age is around 56 and 5 of them are to embark on the Killamanjaro trek in February 2005.
The 'Waklers' are so named due to a spelling error by one of the members.

Please find attached photo's of myslf and my good friend Stefan Horton very windswept at the top of scafell pike on Wednesday 14th April this year (chris2).
The following day we tried our luck with Scafell which started off promising but you but you can see the final result. (chris3).
Camping outside the Wasdale Inn in this sort of weather was made for an experience you can only share with a mate.
In August I was back at wasdale with my wife for a couple of days staying in the yewbarrow room at Wasdale Inn (fabulous, especially that deep bath).
On the 9th we went up Great Gable and I found myself reaching and descending from the summit with map and compass bearing again. In the belief I was cursed this year we went back up Great Gable on the 10th and for the first time I could revel in the views and was relieved to finally see was water from a summit. See you again next year at my favourite part of the world...

Many thanks,
Richard Grindle
Hello!
What a great idea having shots of people at the summit very inspirational to others thinking of doing it.
Please find attached a photo of David Turfitt Age 33 and Jo Yates Age 25 at the summit of Scafell in the mist on 4/06/2004 a hugely enjoyable climb and the first of the 3 peaks not all in one day but a ‘peak a month’ to make it more easy to stomach and want to come back!!
Many thanks,
David Turfitt & Jo Yates
Greetings. Attached please find a picture taken at the summit of Jill
Lawless and David South, August 22, 2004 . We would be delighted to receive
a certificate.
Compliments on an excellent website.
Best regards,
Jill Lawless
Hi there - I attach our photo from the summit, showing my Mum and Dad, Shirley and Simon Denyer, my brother Joe, aged 13, and me, Tom, aged 11. We made it to the top on Monday 30th August 2004 . We tried in 2003 but the weather was so bad we couldn't even start! Please excuse my Mum's hat - we'd just come back from Peru !
Thanks a lot
Cheers
Tom
Steven Procter from Barrow-in-Furness on Englands highest on 7/9/04 , about

experience
Father and Daughter: Stuart and Juliet Doughty aged 54 and 17 reached the summit of Scafell Pike on Tuesday 7th September 2004 . Such perfect, hot, sunny weather with no wind, made it a unique climb for the both of us.
We would love to receive a certificate please. Thenkyou
Mark (31) and John Grace (54) from Kent
Breathtaking, amazing and spectacular with views across to the North West
Coastline. How lucky we were on what was a glorious Saturday 21st August.
You couldn't have picked a clearer one to be on-top of the world (our
world).
Looking forward to one of the other great peaks next year
The pictures are of Steve and Linda Barker (Cambridgeshire) who walked up Scafell Pike on Saturday 28th. August 2004. A very special day for it meant they had completed their personal task of walking up the three peaks in Great Britain . Snowdon in August 1976 on their honeymoon. Ben Nevis August 2003 on their silver wedding anniversary
First time up Scafell Pike for both of us. What wonderful weather.
PS we are both 60. C Snelling dob 29.10.43, M Snelling dob 9.3.44.

Myself (Anthony Waldron) and my friends Jim Benson & Paul Lawrence spent three days around Wasdale at the end of March 2004,
and what a great time we had !
Needless to say we are coming back March 05
This is Ric Sandiford, Matt Daniel and Chris Anderson. We climbed to the top of Scafell Pike in July 2004 for the first time. Excellent day with great weather

Hi. thanks for this facility. We all climbed Scafell Pike on the above date, but were too late coming down to get the T shirts from the shop at the wasdale hotel. We had done Snowdon the previous week, and did Ben Nevis 2 days later.
Our details are;
Neil Clark, 12/11/64 , Old Woodlands, Glen Road , Torwood, Larbert, Stirlingshire , FK5 4SN
Susan Clark, 29/9/67
James Clark, 28/7/91
Shona Clark, 03/9/93
Morag Clark, 3/9/93
We really enjoyed our time in the Lakes, and hope to be back in November
Here is a picture of me (William Phillips, aged 9) at the summit of Scafell
Pike on 24 August 2004 . I was with my Mum and Dad. My 13 year-old sister
said 13 year-olds don't do hill walking so she stayed at the farm. We came
up from Wasdale Head via Sty Head and the Corridor Route , returning via
Brown Tongue. Unfortunately, the last part was in teh clouds so there was
no view.

Hi
This is Mike Little and Jane Shaw (both well over 21!) from Dean Cumbria on the summit at midday on a very foul 26th August 2004 ascending from Sty Head Tarn and Esk Hause. Weather awful from Esk Hawse hence the terrible photo
This is Brian (37) on top of Scafell Pike on Tuesday the 24th August this year
Hi,
I enclose photos of Alexandra Pike (age 11), Jonathan Pike (age 9) and Katherine Pike (age 7) who all climbed Scafell Pike on Friday 20th August. Can you please send one certificate for each, as they would like to take the certificates to their schools for their achievement display.
We climbed from Wasdale Head via Brown Tongue and Lingmell Col. Although the weather that day was generally cloudy and rainy, just before we arrived at the summit, the clouds parted and the sun came out, so we could see the spectacular views of the countryside.
Thanks and regards,
Phil Pike
Hi,
Here is a Pic of me (Andrew Lewis) and my wife Sik (originally from Hong Kong ) stood ontop of Scafell Pike on 15th aug 2004 . The view was not that great as you can see but the climb up was memorable
Thanks
Andrew and Sik Lewis
Mike. Kathryn, Kayley , Cara and Donkey, Nailsworth, Glos.
We made our ascent on Friday 6th August 2004 . An overcast day
threatening rain, we hit cloud at about 1600 feet with visibility of
about 25 yards. Thanks for the cairns ! We reached the summit of Scafell Pike at about 1.30pm , with bitterly cold wind and condensing
cloud. Wrapped ourselves in all our extra gear and had lunch. Cloud
lifted on the way down giving us an idea of the dramatic scenery we
missed going up. By the time we reached the bottom it was a beautiful,
sunny afternoon with just the peaks of Scafell and Great Gable in cloud!
Well done girls! (They earned themselves a day's shopping for their
efforts.)

Hi
This picture was taken at 13:10 hrs 18 Feb 04
Me and my dog Spike aged just 10 months.
I like it, and thought you might too.
We're just back from 4 days backpacking 9 - 12 Aug 04
From Langdale, Hell Gill, Three Tarns, Great Moss. Cam Spout, Hollow Stones, Wasdale Head.
Sty Head Tarn , Seathwaite, Seatoller, Stonethwaite, Langstrath. Stake Pass back to Langdale.
All we needed was some snow for a full house :-)
I'm knackered, starving, stinking and soaking so I'm off.
Steve Prentice
he folks who have just taken the place on are friends.
This picture, I confess, is an old one, probably October 1997, but it is the whole Thomas family: Lesley, Alan, Matthew, Rebekah. I doubt it will be repeated with us all together. As you can sense from the photo, it was a cold, windy day. There was a snow shower as we got to the top, so we had no views. Navigation was quite awkward for a while. Marvellous scenery most of the day though. We hope to return this October.
Lesley and me first climbed Scafell as a ‘courting couple’ in August 1975. I’m the one held aloft, with Lucy ?, my brother Viv, Lesley and close friend, Kevin Stevens. Coming from St. Ives in Cornwall in an old VW camper van for a weeks camping, walking and kayaking was quite an adventure back then.
Best regards
Alan Thomas
My son, James Cooper (14) and I (Sean Cooper 52) made it to the top today 10/08/04 in driving rain and for the last few hundred feet, strong cold wind. We walked from Wasdale Head around Lingmell. I don't know the name of the route but scrambled up the gully to the left of Lords Rake. James was raising sponsorship money in aid of the re-building of his schools Army Cadet hut. He has summited Snowdon (in the snow), and Bowfell already this year, with the cadets, but this time took his dad (who stopped being a couch potato three months ago and took up walking in the Peak District (which didn't really prepare me for the scale of the Wasdale peaks).
Please send James a certificate of his Scafell Pike achievement, and include him on your Scafell Pike Wall of Fame.
Thanks,
Sean Cooper
Hi. Picture shows (from left to right) Karen Hamnett, Tina, Michael and Christine Jolliffe at the summit of Scafell Pike on Sunday, 8th August 2004 . (Blimmin' hard work!!)

An old school friend, Andrew Garsed (48) and myself (47), climbed Scafell Pike on 30th July 2004 . We had been planning to do this for some time in order to get some practise in for a sponsored ascent of Ben Nevis in October to raise funds for the Winged Fellowship Trust.
We had some previous experience of climbs of this nature and had climbed Snowden last year but found Scafell Pike much more challenging (may be we are not as fit as we thought we were!). We ascended from Wasdale and at the divergence of the path took the left hand route to Lingmell Coll and approached the summit from the north west . Numerous other walkers who we met suggested that the alternative via the screes and Mickledore was more difficult although a little shorter.
The weather was dry and thankfully virtually no wind but the varying amounts of cloud were frustrating and hopes of any real view from the summit were defeated. However we were treated to some spectacular evening light over Wast Water and towards the Cumbrian coast on our descent. A good sense of achievement followed by some justified nourishment in the Strands Hotel afterwards
Apologies for the lack of updates for a while the sheer number of certificate requests and photos for the gallery has left me snowed under , I do hope to have it all completed by this time next week ! (Guy 19 Spetember)
This is a photo of Lorraine Dawson at the summit of Scafell Pike, Saturday
31st July 2004. She'd never been up a mountain before so we thought we'd
start her off gently - up from Seathwaite to Scafell via Esk Hause, back
along the Corridor Route. She enjoyed every minute and the sun came out for
her on the summit!

Kate and Tom Watson together with Wilma and Ken Donaghy set a target to
climb the 'Top Ten 10' highest peaks in the lakedistrict over a period of 1
year before age and infirmity claimed us. These are the final two peaks,
Great End and of course the 'Pike'.

Hi, My Name is Derek Edge and I am 56 years old, I climbed Lingmel and Scafell Pike on the same day via the Corridor route, I am really pleased as two years ago I suffered a collasped lung along with other complications after which I could just about make it up stairs to go to bed.
Since then I have gradually built my breathing back up by walking miles along the roads but I still struggled using stairs at work so somebody suggested fell walking, well being a bit dubious I set off on a walk around Kinniside from Cold fell and the first big climb I came to I thought I was about to suffer a heart attack but after a lengthy rest I recovered and completed the walk.Since then I have discovered the wonderful world of Wasdale and it's many splendid walks and I am quickly gaining confidence in what I can acheive even if in some places I can only manage a few yards inbetween rests but the main thing is I am doing it.
I would like to give a special thanks to the people doing the pathways and also to the many people whom I have met on the upper fells and have stopped with me on the more strenuous parts to see me across
Taken 9th March 2004; what a day !@#!!
Regards
I know the pic isn't that clear of my location but it is at the top on 21st
May 2004 (camera date was wrong) at about 1.40pm. That looks like Great
Gable on the left behind me. For this first climb of Scafell Pike I went up
via Brown Tongue/Mickledore and down by the Corridor Route. all great fun
Ian Robinson ( age 43 ) I made the summit of scafell pike on thursday 1st July 2004 with my mate Geoff Mason ( age 39,just ) came up from Seathwaite via the corridor route and back down via Sprinkling Tarn , Stockley Bridge, visability was good all the way up until the last 200 yards, the Lake District cloud moved in, but still totally enjoyable, but will have to do it again to get a view
Jenny Taylor aged 8, and Suzie Taylor aged 5, on the summit of Scafell Pike
on Monday 5th July 2004. Made the ascent with great style, only whinge was
when Suzie lost her bit of moss she had been carrying. (It was a very
special bit of moss!) Later in the week they also made the ascent of Harter
Fell in Eskdale and did a few routes on a crag by Eskdale Green
Myself and my son Nicholas age 7 climbed the Pike on Thursday 3rd June 2004. As you can see from the picture it was really bleak at the top, but we were very pleased to have succeeded and my son was exceptionally proud being only 7 years old
Hi this is me (Ste) at the top of the England on 19/4/99. Been back a few
times but the first was definitely the best
Steve Lee on the 01/07/04
I took my daughter Emma Thornton on a camping trip to Wasdale with my walking club recently and we managed to walk to the top of Scafell Pike. This was my daughter's first expedition to the Lake District and I think she quite enjoyed it, despite the rain and midges
Please find attached a picture of (from left to right): myself (Matt Jones, 24), Paul Cook, Andy White, John Brennan, Keith Stephenson and Sam the dog at the front! Not pictured is the photographer: Ed Matthews. We climbed the Pike on Monday 28th June in terrible weather as you can probably tell from our bedraggled look! We got to the top at about 8PM

I am just sending a picture of me on Scafell Pike on the 18th April, 2004 for the Scafell Pike picture board. This was the first time I did it, I have done it again since, but I am yet to get a veiw off the top, Hopefully next time!!
My name is August Atkinson and I climbed Scafell Pike on Wednesday 2nd of June with my family. I still think that the summit of Scafell behind me looks higher but my dad says it is 13 mts lower
This is me, Adam Pitt in the red coat with my brother in law Jon Wingfield
at the top of Englands finest at 0645 on Monday 31st May '04. The veiw alone
was worth the pain and discomfort of an overnight trip from Ben Nevis, made
all the more memorable by the fact that for the first time ever we had the
mountain all to ourselves . A nice change from our jaunt at Easter when we
where upto our knees in snow with zero vis and freezing

Having just returned from Scafell, and reminiscing by exploring your
website, I found the invitation to send photos.
Here is me (on the right) on Scafell Pike summit at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday
13th June 2004 - it was absolutely beautiful. Having just made the ascent
via Mickledore in an hour and thirty minutes we were pretty pleased with
ourselves .
This was my first time, and I very much intend to return with my family and
repeat the adventure at a more leisurely pace, and hopefully in the same
weather.
regards, Martin Turner
Herewith, please find attached photo of Spanking (The Monkey) and Rufus on

The Scafell Pike wall of fame
Not to miss out on this opportunity, a few local faces you might recognise for your web site.
It was Easter Sunday, 04, when Jim, Lindsay and Chris kindly agreed to take two very unfit people to the top of Scafell Pike which took us just over 4 hours from start to finish, much longer than the fell runners usual times but it gave them chance to scout a couple of routes for an impending race, Gavin and I did not mind as we were glad of the rest! When we reached the summit, and as it was Easter we cracked open the Easter egg and took in the views which were great as it was clear and you could see for miles.

Started Wasdale National Trust car park on route to Scafell Pike via Brown Tongue 10.30 am Sunday 6th June. Into cloud by about 1/3 of the way up, never broke for the whole trek. Reach Scafell Pike at 12.45pm. Descended via Mickledore, route was proving difficult to follow so tagged onto guide (Neil) and 4 YH. Ended up following them, to the horror of my physical state, to Scafell via Fox’s Tarn I thought I was going down to the Inn for a pint! We completed the descent via Green How where we later broke through the cloud base for our first view of Waswater for five hours. Whoever you are, thanks for us not ending up in Eskdale and a great mountain experience.
Matthew Scott , Jon Montague, Jonathan Foster.
My son Nathan (aged 12) and myself managed the climb on Friday 4th June
2004 (the day after my 49th Birthday). It was clear below around 800m but
we soon entered the clouds which were persistent for our duration at the
top. This quickly saw us drag the extra layers from the rucksacks, the
change in temperature being a salutary lesson for others who made the trip
in tee-shirts. We then enjoyed much clearer views from Lingmell Crag before
descending the corridor route - what a fantastic day out and a well
deserved pint (for me at least) at the Wasdale Head Inn, where we enjoyed a
great weeks stay.

Climbed Scafell Pike on Bank Holiday Monday 31 May 2004 with my son Jack
aged 14. His first time, and only my (Alex McCrickard aged 44) second I'm
ashamed to say, since climbing it with my own father in about 1978!!
We had a sensational day, my best ever in the Lakes, ascending from the NT
campsite (with all our gear!) via Lingmell Ghyll and scrambling through
cloud to emerge into glorious views from Mickledore and upwards. After the
summit we were high for the rest of the day, strolling over Great End, Esk
Pike and Bow Fell Summit, finishing with a scramble down the gulley to the
climbers' path and the Band down to Langdale.
Robert and Terry Gair (age 12 and 42) climbed Scafell Pike on May 31st 2004.
We reached the top at about 3pm via Brown Tongue and Mickledore. Having seen
no-one for over an hour we were surprised by the size of the crowd on top,
but the weather was excellent for an ascent. Terry had climbed the mountain
once before in 1991, 1 year before Robert was born, but this was Robert's
first time on the top of England, having got to the summit of Helvellyn at
Easter 2004. We were sorry to be unable to climb Scafell via Lord's Rake, nd
hope to do so when it is safe again
Both myself and my son climbed scafell Pike on Sunday 31st may 2004.

KEITH REILLY- HAPPY BIRTHDAY-from Brum tothe top of the world.
After a couple of years reading Walking mags at work I finally got off the
couch (just before senility or worse),just as my 50th arrived. So after years of dreaming and only hours of preparation the time had come to embark on a new chapter of life.Saturday morning came and I was meant to be in the lakes but I was actually scared to take the 1st step and load up the car and get on the way.No one wanted to come so I was to spend the weekend alone (a first).Arrived at 1pm and worked out it would be unwise to tackle the BIG UN so I suddenly thought how about Helvellyn-can’t be that hard. Guess what it was! But what a place to be on your 50th. So I celebrated by going along Striding edge then back up to the top via Squirral edge and I met only three others but had every type of weather except snow. After kipping in the car overnight at Seathwaite ,set out at 7 expecting to go up the corridor but got carried away and followed the 3 peakers from Stockley Bridge and we got there at 9.30.What a great weekend (it’s the highest the Villa have been in years) and I have now done another birthday trip in 03 and attacked Snowdon and Cader. Can’t wait for this July to do a couple of Bens then after that who knows.
Callum Lindsey, Sally Pebble and Sarah Booth. Friday 7th of May 2004 at 11am just in time for elevenses, on our 11 day journey following Wainwright's tour of the Lake District (or Memorial Walk).
I've just returned home after a week in Wasdale and climbed Scafell Pike on the last day I was there. All the times I've climbed it before it has been raining or misty (or both) so to see magnificent view from the top was fantastic (30 May 04)

Nick Fairhurst, Charles Skeavington and Andrew Davenport (the latter two both 1st timers) climbed Scafell Pike on Sat March 13th 2004 via Eskdale and Eskdale Hause before dropping down to Wasdale Head for a very welcome pint (especially the stout).
This is a picture of Graham Baldwin (left), Mike Bloor (Centre) and myself, Richard Preston, (right), on Friday 23rd April 2004, on our first visit to the top of Scafell Pike, which we walked / climbed from Wasdale Head via Brown Tongue.
The conditions were not good, extremely low cloud and very wet and cold, and we could hardly see each other on top, let alone any of the views, although luckily we did spot a couple who kindly took the picture.
However, it was a great day and very worthwhile, especially when we ended up at Wasdale Head to enjoy a cool pint on our return.
Please find attached a Photo of Joshua (10) and Ruth Cooper (8) on top of
England on Easter Saturday (10th April, 2004). Unfortunately whilst
visibility was limited due to cloud on the tops we could still see well over
100 people at the top.
This was our children's second visit, their first being in October 2001 when
Ruth was just 6 and a quarter. It was wetter and quieter on that visit.(picture added 20/04/04)
