Kirkfell

Difficulty: Moderate (but very steep!)

Time approx 3.5 hours

Leave the Wasdale Head Green car park and walk towards the pub and shop; go past the shop and turn right along the Mosedale Beck. Do not go over the pack horse bridge staying instead on the right hand bank, this will take you through two gates until you are looking directly up the front of Kirkfell and this is your path. It climbs steeply up the front on a grassy path until this gives way to scree in the upper reaches, once past this you are very nearly at the summit.

To return you head towards Beck Head, the dip or col between Kirkfell and Great Gable; a rocky but good path which is easy to find by following the fence posts in the direction of Gable but please note if you follow the posts away from Gable you will be on a very steep and scrambly path which is not recommended!

This path then follows the same route as described in the Gable walk above
